What does it take to make a successful apparel line? Do you know? Are you an expert?
Sure, you think you know. After all, you have experience in this industry printing t-shirts or maybe embroidering on some hats. You might even have your own shop “brand” that you are kicking around and selling locally.
But, I’m talking bigger.
Major success. Huge website sales. Having the line in a crazy amount of stores.
Want to learn how that happens?
At Shirt Lab Atlanta we made it easy, as we’re bringing in the masters of this art to give you expert guidance in building your own retail apparel line brand.
You aren’t going to find these tips with a Google search.
This is why you need to make the trek to Atlanta, Georgia for Shirt Lab on September 28.
Let’s check out the lineup:
Developing a Concept That Creates Demand
Todd Moen has been in this industry his entire life. He’s run promotional product companies, apparel decorating shops, and other businesses…but his background is in the printing industry. Developing brands and clothing lines from local production to global sourcing and marketing.
His current company, Kreativ Launch, develops clothing lines for the music and entertainment industry. Past clients and customers include all four major sports leagues, the NCAA, large concert tours and numerous clothing brands from $1M to $23M+.
Todd’s segment for Shirt Lab Atlanta is all about developing winning ideas and concepts that will go the distance. How do you know what will work, and what will be a failure? What do you need to think about or research?
It all starts with a BETTER idea.
Art as a Sales Tool
Art as a Sales Tool with Justin McKibbon. Justin grew up in this industry and is a major force in sales at Melmarc. You might not have heard about Melmarc before, but I’m sure you recognize their catalog of apparel brand clients:
Stussy, Thrasher, Vortex, adidas, Blizzard Entertainment, Eddie Bauer, or Orvis to name a few.
Justin is going to have a frank discussion about how art makes the sale. He will be bringing the heat with real examples and case studies of how the art was developed that led to big orders in retail.
After all, you aren’t selling many blank shirts. Better art = better sales.
Fact.
E-Commerce for Retail Apparel Sales
Jarrod Hennis began screen printing fifteen years ago using a Riley Hopkins 6/4 press in the basement of what eventually became Rockford Art Deli, a retail screen printing shop in Rockford, IL, which has been transforming the culture of the city since 2011.
RAD’s innovative, city positive designs, support of the local art community, and fully manual, water-based printed custom work encourage what Jarrod hopes will set a standard in the screen printing industry.
As a founder of Allmade, and simply a human who cares about saving the one world we’ve got, Jarrod chooses to print using sustainable, eco-friendly products.

Maximizing Store Distribution Channels
So how do you not only get your clothing line in a store…but in a chain of stores? Or even multiple store chains?
That’s the question, and Seth Anderson with LKWID apparel has the answer.
Seth Anderson has over 30 years of experience in the promotional products, apparel, and restaurant industries.
He has created products for TBWA/Chiat/Day including campaigns for Nissan, Infiniti, Apple, Adidas, Hoover, Dole, Sony Playstation, Hang Ten, Pedigree, ASCAP, Universal Pictures, and the Academy Awards, amongst many others.
Seth championed “Made in the USA” for all of Pepsi’s marketing product giveaways distributed at the 2009 Presidential Inauguration. Which included over 1,000,000 buttons, 125,000 t-shirts, 80,000 bandanas, 50,000 scarves, and 1,000 engraved IPods.
He has designed and manufactured products for concert tours and fan clubs for many bands including the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Stone Temple Pilots, and Tool.
He oversaw the development & manufacturing for the USA launch of the Virgin Megastore, providing a 20-piece clothing line and 1,250,000 bags.
In five years with the Wolfgang Puck Food Company, he helped build and brand new restaurants, assisted in new products and packaging design for the frozen foods division, and ran their merchandising division for 5 years.
Moving on to BLT Communications to run their merchandising division where he created apparel and promo campaigns for Disney, Dolby, Paramount Pictures and HBO. Since 2015 he’s been the VP Sales at LKWID which is one of the largest screen printers of retail music and entertainment merchandise in the western USA with factories in California and Mexico.
Marketing Your Apparel Line with Social Video
Video marketing is nuclear hot these days, and we’re bringing Ryan Moor back to share his thoughts on how to market your apparel line with video on social media.
He has presented a different video workshop at all four of our Shirt Lab’s so far, and they have all been spectacular.
For Shirt Lab Atlanta, his focus is going to be on how you can market your apparel line with video. Techniques, tips, and problem-solving ideas that will help you get the word out on your awesomeness.
By the way, Ryan has his own apparel line that you may have heard about. Allmade.
Then…
Retail Brands Roundtable Event
We will have our instructors gathered for a fun and interactive question and answer session.
If by some circumstance, all of your questions weren’t answered in the main part of the Shirt Lab workshop, you’ll get plenty of time to ask our expert panel.
There is no way you can leave Shirt Lab Atlanta with any mysteries about how to create, market and sell your apparel line.
We’ve got you covered!
What The Event Is Like
If you haven’t been to a Shirt Lab event before, it’s a little different than a stuffy trade show lecture.
First, it’s built on having lots of networking and fun. We like to call it “infotainment”. If you aren’t enjoying yourself while you are learning, what’s the point?
Let’s talk turkey on the different Shirt Lab events. Check ’em out:
Friday, September 27 – Networking Social
Bring your business cards and get your networking cap on, as we’ll be heading to the Buckhead Saloon for some lively industry discussions!
Sponsored by InkSoft, this fun event will be held from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
You’ll get to see old friends and maybe meet some new ones over an adult beverage or two at the bar.
Saturday, September 28 – Shirt Lab Atlanta Main Event
This time we’ll be at the Atlanta Tech Village, which just so happens to be next door to the Springhill Suites Atlanta Buckhead where we have our hotel block. Hmmm. How convenient.
Atlanta Tech Village is all about startups, entrepreneurs, and launching big ideas. So, that’s why it’s the perfect place for us.
There is a networking breakfast from 7:00 am to 8:00 am, and then the learning starts promptly at 8:00 am.
We’ll include plenty of time during the day for networking breaks, and we should wrap everything up by 5:00 pm.
Saturday, September 28 – Shirt Lab VIP Dinner
For those that want to elevate their experience, you can join us for a private dinner with our instructors, sponsors and other VIP dinner guests.
These have always proved to be an incredible time, as everyone relaxes and digs into even more industry tidbits and secrets. Sit next to your favorite instructor and get some personal time over a great meal.
For Shirt Lab Atlanta, we’ll be hanging out at Maggiano’s Little Italy at Buckhead for some great Italian food and plenty of fun.
Warning! These always sell out, so don’t wait. Seating is limited.
Included with the VIP price is the Mastermind Brunch on Sunday.
Sunday, September 29 – Shirt Lab Mastermind Brunch
Before you head back to wherever you are traveling from, consider attending the Shirt Lab Mastermind Brunch first!
This event kicks off at 9:00 am and lasts until 11:00 am.
One thing that has proved remarkable is that people keep thinking about one segment from the previous day’s education, and they can’t wait to discuss it at the Brunch. It’s all about implementation. How are you going to do it? Or what do you think?
The discussions get lively as everyone starts to brainstorm about what happens on Monday when they get back to the shop.
